Documentary theater with the Vajswerk investigative theater collective

To mark the 85th anniversary of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, the Berlin-Karlshorst Museum will once again present the documentary theater production “Juni-Briefe” by the Vajswerk research theater collective on August 13 and 14. Five years after its premiere and following guest performances in Weimar and at the Brandenburg State Parliament in Potsdam, the production returns to its place of origin.

The play is based on the special exhibition “1941. June Letters. Unread Field Mail from Kamianets-Podilskyi,” which uses authentic letters to shed light on the beginning of Germany’s war of annihilation against the Soviet Union from various perspectives. The production combines field post letters from Red Army soldiers with letters from residents of the Ukrainian city of Kamianets-Podilskyi. The documentary texts offer poignant insights into the hopes, fears, and experiences of people whose lives were fundamentally altered by the war.

In the museum garden and on the terrace of the Winter Garden, three actors lend their voices to the historical letters. The performance, featuring Laura Mitzkus, Charles Toulouse, and Manolo Palma, is accompanied musically by cellist Anton Peisakhov. Directed by Christian Tietz.
