Ghost ships on the Havel - Lines of sight

The exhibition by Christine Keruth Geisterschiffe auf der Havel - Linien des Sehens presents the series ghostly ships on the wind: 15 paintings in a unique combination of oil, acrylic and ink on canvas. The starting point is historical sailing yachts, designed between 1900 and 1911 by the renowned yacht designers Max Oertz and Otto Protzen, whose designs had a decisive influence on the sport on the Havel.

The works combine technical drawings from the early 20th century with contemporary pictorial motifs such as water surfaces, water lilies, landscapes and figures. The result is an exciting synthesis of precision and painterly freedom, of past and present.

The Temple of Pomona, with its panoramic view over the Havel, is the ideal exhibition venue. Here, the yachts that were once at home on the Havel become visible again as "ghostly ships" - as poetic images of memory between construction, landscape and imagination. The exhibition understands the Havel as a symbolic space in which art, technology and history overlap and can be experienced anew.
