Berlin’s Kunstgewerbemuseum (KGM, Museum of Applied Arts) presents 30 award-winning projects that have been recognised with the German Ecodesign Award, the most prestigious federal award for ecological design in Germany.
The exhibition showcases the diversity of sustainable design solutions selected by an interdisciplinary jury of design and environmental experts. The entries honoured with the award in December 2025 impressively demonstrate how design can contribute to resource conservation, circular economy, digital transformation and social innovation.
Design shapes and influences various aspects of our daily lives over the long term. The exhibition tangibly conveys the broad spectrum of current sustainable design – from automotive sheet metal and concrete to over-ear headphones and T-shirts. The Felt for the Future project, for example, demonstrates the potential of bio-based materials by showcasing a monomaterial shoe made entirely of wool. Meanwhile, the SHIFTphone concept ensures that smartphones are intrinsically repairable. Fully recycled aluminium automotive sheet metal produced by Novelis shows that sustainable circular material flows are possible even in energy-intensive industries.
The exhibition highlights the vast potential of sustainable design, from materials and products to digital services and innovative system solutions. This is a key issue to which the KGM is deeply committed. The German Ecodesign Award roadshow targets a wide audience, including design enthusiasts, experts and anyone inspired by forward-looking design.
About the German Ecodesign Award
Since 2012, the German Ecodesign Award has been recognising innovative products, concepts, services, and young-talent projects that combine ecological quality with design excellence. The award is presented annually by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the German Environmental Agency in collaboration with the Website of the International Design Center Berlin. The goal is to shine a spotlight on ecological innovations with high design quality and to provide impetus for sustainable design practices. Projects for the German Ecodesign Award can be submitted until 2 April 2026.
