An Evening in Kyjiv, 2025/2026

– An Evening in Kyjiv, 2025/2026

The Prater Galerie was a central venue for contemporary art in East Berlin and was closely linked to the Center for Art Exhibitions of the GDR (ZfK), with works from the GDR and Eastern European countries circulating through exchange programs. “Courage: Sisters in Spirit” reverses the historical underrepresentation of women artists and exclusively features artistic practices by women that critically engage with social and political issues. Historical and contemporary works come together to offer a nuanced perspective on resistance, memory, and self-organization in various political contexts. The focus is on artistic practices that reflect on power structures, exile, repression, solidarity, and feminist self-organization. This creates a polyphonic portrait of courage as an attitude that understands art both politically and as a critical corrective.

Featuring works by Yevgenia Belorusets, Christa Jeitner, Magdalena Jetelová, Lesia Pcholka, Luise Schröder, Gundula Schulze Eldowy, Natalia Vatsadze, and Eva Vent

Curated by Katharina von Hagenow (Director of Prater Galerie), Lena Prents (Co-Curator), and Susanne Weiß (ifa – Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations)
