Artificial intelligence and art—do they go together? The newly opened AuraLabs in Berlin will provide an answer to this question starting on September 27, 2025. It is an exhibition space dedicated entirely to the connection between AI, art, and new media. On display are 14 works that evolve in real time—changed by interaction, generative processes, and projection.
14 artworks between AI, interaction, and play
“AuraLabs wants to show how digital technologies can generate emotions and change our perception,” explains founder and curator Vasily Fedotov, who has already enjoyed great success with the Khroma exhibition in Vienna and Berlin. While Khroma focused primarily on light and color, AuraLabs places greater emphasis on AI technology. Many of the works react directly to the movements or behavior of visitors, which is what brings them to life.
One example is “Portraits in Pink, Blue & Silver,” created by the New York collective “breakfaststudio.” Here, a camera captures the silhouette of visitors and translates it into an image made up of hundreds of small flip discs. This fleeting reflection is not lost, but is stored and reappears later, embedded in a sequence of other faces. The work aims to make one's own presence visible and link the present with memory.
AuraLabs: AI meets art in an immersive experience space
Participation is also expressly encouraged in “Line Wobbler.” This takes the form of operating a joystick made from a simple door spring that reacts to bending and rocking. Players use it to control a single point of light via an LED strip, guiding it past opponents, barriers, and fields of fire. In addition, there is a direct reaction of sound and light, which gives the game an unusual physicality. “Line Wobbler” is strongly reminiscent of the early days of video games and unfolds with surprising depth.
In addition to these works, twelve other works from the field of AI and new media art will be presented. The exhibition at the RAW site is aimed at a broad audience: whether big or small, young or old, everyone is invited to discover art and technology at AuraLabs. Workshops, discussions, and performances that actively involve visitors are also planned.
