Annual Exhibition of the Institute of Architecture: PlatzAngst

In 2026, students from the Institute of Architecture (IfA) will once again present their projects from the past year. The entire building will open its doors, and all of the projects will be accessible to anyone interested through the so-called “tour.”

PlatzAngst—this year’s exhibition title—describes the loss of our student spaces and infrastructure on campus. The closure of various buildings and informal gathering spots, along with the introduction of opening hours at the institute, has created a growing sense of uncertainty. Which student spaces remain, and how can they be preserved?

Information and impressions from exhibitions in recent years:

404 Funding not Found (IfA Expo 2025): The key issues address budget cuts, a lack of resources, and structural changes at the university. This draws attention to the financial difficulties in the education sector. How do austerity measures affect teaching, facilities, and student life?

Who is your 24/7? (IfA Expo 2024): Focus on the social and organizational structures behind the institute’s day-to-day operations. The aim is to bring to light what often remains in the background (administration, secretariats, workshops, cleaning, building services, and security). Who actually makes the building’s round-the-clock operation possible?

Pop It (IfA Expo 2023): Consciously breaking out of one’s own (architectural) bubble and critically questioning the spaces of thought and work that are familiar to us. The focus is on the boundaries and divisions that surround us. How do they arise? And how can we transcend them?

Admission is free.
