Annemirl Bauer: Retrospective

The exhibition features a local artist who lived and worked in Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as a critical and independent voice from the GDR who was long excluded from the artistic canon.

In the fall of 2026, the Minsk Kunsthaus in Potsdam will open a comprehensive retrospective dedicated to the complex artistic oeuvre of Annemirl Bauer (1939–1989)—including paintings, works on paper, collages, and objects.

The exhibition showcases a local artist who lived and worked in Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as a critical and independent voice from the GDR who was long excluded from the artistic canon. Her works bear witness to her self-conception as a painter and an uncompromising observer who continually advocated for social justice and rebelled against the repression of SED policies. The exhibition is curated by Marie Gerbaulet, with Luisa Bachmann serving as curatorial assistant. It is being organized in close collaboration with Amrei Bauer, estate administrator and founder and director of the Annemirl Bauer House in Niederwerbig, Brandenburg.
