Yoga at the MIM

Tandem guided tour through the world of the harmonium, focusing on the connection between sound, history, and physical practice

Yoga im MIM – Yoga im MIM

Yoga im MIM – Yoga im MIM

The harmonium was developed in Europe in the 19th century and quickly found its place in churches and salons. During the colonial era, it made its way to India, where it was redesigned: instead of foot pedals, it is played with a hand bellows—ideal for the traditional sitting position on the floor. Thus, the harmonium became an integral part of Indian music, especially for accompanying singing and mantras.

In this tandem workshop, a yoga teacher and a museum guide will guide you through the world of the harmonium, combining sound, history, and physical practice into a multi-layered experience.

After a brief insight into the development of the instrument based on selected exhibits in the museum, a yoga session will follow in the middle of the exhibition room. It will be accompanied by the meditative sounds of an Indian harmonium.

Suitable for curious beginners and advanced practitioners.

Ten yoga mats are available, but you are welcome to bring your own.
