Words Connect – "OSTGEBIETE / ZIEMIE ZACHODNIE. German-Polish Perspectives"

In our writing workshop, the motto “Words Connect” comes to life. Our September session will continue to explore the special exhibition, 'OSTGEBIETE / ZIEMIE ZACHODNIE. German-Polish Perspectives', which was already the focus of our June meeting. In it, photographers from Germany and Poland engage in a visual dialogue on memory, identity and transformation. In September, we will include the permanent exhibition and delve deeper into visual narratives and themes such as home and loss of home, identity and memory, as well as new beginnings in a foreign land. Through our writing, we will engage in a dialogue on German-Polish perspectives on a shared space of memory that still holds history and stories for us today, stories that have the potential not only to help us better understand the present, but also to shape our future together. We explore the exhibition and embark on a German-Polish search for traces. We allow narrated, remembered and lived histories to take root on paper and bear fruit. Even today, war, flight and the search for a new home are, sadly, still a reality for many people – we give space to our thoughts, (collective) memories and hopes, and use the creative power of writing to let words become bridges.

The writing workshop invites anyone who enjoys experimenting with words and language. We will provide inspiration and are happy to draw on the ideas of others. Writing together becomes a dialogue in which we can all learn from and share with one another.

The writing workshop will be held in German, English and Polish; participants may write in their preferred language.
