The guided tour builds on key research themes and artistic perspectives from the exhibition “On Water”, bringing them to life in the urban setting of Spree Island.

At specific locations, visitors can see the role water plays in everyday urban life – historically, ecologically and socially. The focus is on current issues and observations: water quality and swimming in the Spree, public drinking fountains and water features, historic lever pumps as part of critical infrastructure, and climate adaptation measures such as de-sealing and infiltration systems for heavy rainfall. The cooling effect of evaporation from trees and green facades is also addressed. The tour, lasting around an hour and a half, combines urban observation with background knowledge, thereby fostering dialogue between different academic perspectives. It concludes with a return to the exhibition at the Humboldt Lab.

The water walk is led by Christian Hajer.
