With the end of the war in 1945, the Soviet Union began almost five decades of use of the area around Potsdam's New Garden. Many traces of this period can still be seen today and are the focus of this guided tour.
The tour begins at Cecilienhof Palace, the historic site of the Potsdam Conference. Traces such as Cyrillic inscriptions still remind us of this important meeting of the Allies. The route leads through the former amusement park for Soviet military personnel to the site of the former secret service town “Military Town No. 7.” In the “forbidden city,” visitors can see the headquarters of the Soviet military counterintelligence service and the remains of a large memorial complex. They bear witness to the everyday life of the secret service employees and KGB guards stationed here. The tour ends in the courtyard of the former counterintelligence remand prison on Leistikowstraße. Until 1991, the secret service held numerous Soviet and German citizens prisoner there.
