The collection of conversations *The New Wall* examines tensions between East and West and explores the state of democracy. Much of what succeeded or failed in the reunification process after 1990 continues to have an impact today, shaping expectations, disappointments, and political attitudes. Bodo Ramelow, former Minister-President of the Free State of Thuringia, and historian Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk discuss the causes, perceptions, and prospects of an increasingly polarized society. They analyze the success of the AfD not only in the new federal states and discuss our shared responsibility for the future of democracy in Germany.
