a lecture about bats

Bats are surprisingly diverse: They hunt in complete darkness, pollinate plants, and inhabit nearly every habitat on Earth.

Marisa Tietge’s lecture invites you to learn about their fascinating adaptations, ways of life, and their importance for biodiversity.

In our Evolutionary Ethology research group at the museum, we investigate how behavior, communication, and cognition evolve in the animal kingdom. Bats are our primary model system in this research. We place a special emphasis on studying acoustic communication, social interactions, and learning processes in the field.
