The Meierei is located at the idyllic northern tip of Peacock Island. The building, which from the outside resembles a dilapidated monastery complex, was constructed in 1794–95 on the orders of King Frederick William II. Inside, it surprises visitors with the stately Gothic Hall on the upper floor, which was decorated with a three-dimensional perspective painting by the Italian artist Bartolomeo Verona.
