The Berlin Sculpture Find

'Degenerate Art‘ in the Bomb Rubble

Führung zum "Berliner Skulpturenfund"

Führung zum "Berliner Skulpturenfund"

Brought together by fate and marked by abuse and destruction, the "Berlin Sculpture Collection" has become a symbol known the world over that demonstrates the persecution of modern art by the National Socialist dictatorship more vividly than some works of art that have survived intact.
But why were these works of classical modernism considered "degenerate art"? How were they shown at the propaganda exhibition of the same name in Munich in 1937? Who were the artists? The tour sheds light on this prehistory and the discovery of the figures during the excavations in Berlin-Mitte in 2010. We get very close to the sculptures, recognize what can be healed through restoration, but also how much has been lost in the bomb rubble.
