Sebastian Winkels (*1968 in Kleve) studied at Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. He directs and edits documentaries. His works – including HASE & IGEL, INNEN-AUSSEN-MONGOLEI, 7 BRÜDER and TALKING MONEY – received numerous awards and screened at festivals worldwide. Employing a conceptualised minimalist approach, he addresses a unique communicative setting with each film. His interests evolve around ‘the language of power’ and ‘the power of language’.
He likes films with open cracks and slippery surfaces that try to engage on eye level with their audiences. His collaboration with filmmaker Simon Brückner spans over twenty years of writing, editing and filming. While editing films such as POLITICS ARE PERSONAL, SOLDATEN DES LICHTS or EINE DEUTSCHE PARTEI he has examined partially disturbing phenomena within the political sphere. In addition to his artistic work, he accompanies documentary film projects, i.e. as editing consultant for FirstCutLab. He is a member of the German Film Academy, the German Film Editor’s Association (BFS) and AG Dok.
