Warning: Poisonous Plant!

Plants are sessile organisms and have developed numerous defense mechanisms to prevent themselves from being eaten by animals. In addition to spines, thorns, and stinging hairs, toxic substances are a common defense mechanism used by many plants to protect themselves. The Botanical Garden—and especially its Medicinal Plant Garden—is home to numerous poisonous wild and garden plants just waiting to be discovered. On this Sunday tour, you’ll experience these unique gardens on a walk through the outdoor grounds—or, in case of rain, inside the greenhouses. Discover our seasonal highlights!
