Queer avant la lettre: In 1970, photographer Elfi Mikesch began her work as a director and camerawoman. Known for her dancing, moving images, which transport us into unheard-of obliqueness and dreams, she worked on the camera for countless films by Rosa von Praunheim, Werner Schroeter and Monika Treut. These collaborations sparkle with queerness, anarchic energy and political commitment. From 'Ich denke oft an Hawaii' (1978) and the photo film 'Execution - A Study of Mary' (1979) to her documentary 'Krieg oder Frieden' (2024), Mikesch has directed over 20 productions herself. Fiona Berg and Maja Roth talk to Mikesch about her queer life and work.
