Renewal of the old rights

Nationalist and racist discourses in Germany and France 1951-1971

Book presentation: Dr. Marie Müller-ZetzscheModeration: Prof. Dr. Gideon Botsch

(Together with the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European-Jewish Studies in Potsdam)

In her recently published book Renewal of the Old Right (2026), Marie Müller-Zetzsche reconstructs the intellectual prehistory of the "New Right" in the Federal Republic of Germany and France using two central radical right-wing magazines: "Nation Europa" and "Défense de l'Occident". The author shows how a network of "political writers" created ideological continuities over decades, preserved narratives and opened up spaces of discourse that became suitable for later right-wing movements.Translated with DeepL
