As part of the exhibition “Inventing Queer Cinema,” we take a look at the history of queer German cinema: at resistance and revolution, solidarity and innovation. The exhibition not only showcases important films but, above all, tells the stories of the experiences of many different people who work in film and cinema: What kind of cinema do they dream of, or have they dreamed of? What parallels emerge across the decades? Why did some projects fail, and what led to their success? How has queer cinema accompanied and commented on the history of emancipation? When did it actively shape this history, and in what ways did it even influence the so-called mainstream?
