The tour following in Luise’s footsteps leads to two locations in the palace gardens that commemorate the queen, who died at a young age, in different ways: the mausoleum, with its impressive funerary monument, and Luise Island, featuring the queen’s bust and other sculptures.

The grieving king had the mausoleum built after the queen’s sudden death on July 19, 1810. At first, the interior contained only the queen’s tomb, created by Christian Daniel Rauch from Carrara marble—a masterpiece of 19th-century German sculpture.
