'Money as a Weapon' with Ulrike Herrmann

Wars are usually analyzed from political, military, or strategic perspectives. The role of the economy is often ignored. Yet its role is fundamental: every weapon costs money, the economy itself can turn into a weapon – and often it is economic crises that trigger wars in the first place. As for the present geopolitical conflicts, these patterns are currently evident in Iran, Russia, and China.

Ulrike Herrmann writes on economics in the German daily newspaper Die Tageszeitung. She is a trained banker and holds a master degree in philosophy from Freie Universität Berlin. She has published books on social and economic issues, most recently The End of Capitalism (2022) and Money as a Weapon. How the Economy Decides on War and Peace (2026). 

The talk will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Sören Benn. 

Sören Benn is a host, facilitator, and consultant, and former mayor of Berlin-Pankow, where he initiated a town-twinning partnership with Rivne and continues to support the city.
