Fueled by resurgent right-wing conservatism and online platforms that have proven to be an ideal breeding ground for misogynistic ideologies, a “masculinist identity politics” (Birgit Sauer) is gaining momentum. The TEXTE ZUR KUNST issue “Misogyny” builds on previous themed issues on gender-based oppression such as “Feminismen” (1993), “Sexismen” (1994), and “The Feminist” (2020) to address the media and sociopolitical specifics of the current wave of misogynistic tendencies and topoi. The focus of the symposium on May 9 is how misogynistic backlash manifests in the art world. Anti-feminist modes of representation and art-historical methods will be examined alongside the challenge of responding to changing conditions with artistic-feminist strategies. Projections onto and expectations of the female body serve as the basis for analyzing the material and media conditions of feminist critique.

A project by Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) and TEXTE ZUR KUNST.
