Artistic Heritage in a Society of Migration: In this installment of our event series, we ask: What remains of the artistic legacy of earlier generations?
What stories are hidden in a picture, a song, or a memento? In the “Migration Storytelling Salon,” we’ll use personal objects and documents to discuss how stories, experiences, and artistic inspiration are passed down from generation to generation. You’re welcome to bring your own mementos and share your experiences. This creates a space for exchange about memories, migration, and lived history.
This evening, we’ll be joined by the daughters and granddaughters of artists featured in the exhibition “Shared Lives: Art and Migration in Berlin.” They’ll discuss their parents’ artistic and political work and how the upheavals of the 1970s and 1980s are reflected in their own creative work. What can we learn from this? How do experiences of migration and exile shape subsequent generations? And what do memories mean for our own sense of identity?
After the discussion, we’ll wrap up the evening with drinks.

With the “Migration Storytelling Salon,” the Berlin Museum presents a quarterly event series. In it, participants from migrant and diaspora communities share their stories of migration and resistance. In the spirit of storytelling and oral history, the focus is on sharing everyday stories from the perspective of migration. The setting is informal: Participants exchange experiences and present photo albums, music, or videos that accompany their stories. Visitors are invited to bring their own objects, photos, or documents.
