A unique picture was presented by the Grotto Hall on Christmas Eve. The candlelight from the chandeliers and wall branches made the walls decorated with crystals and precious stones sparkle. In the Garden Hall, designed by Frederick the Great in the 18th century, Emperor Wilhelm II and his family celebrated Christmas from 1889 to 1917. Princess Victoria Luise, the daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, described the festivities as the highlight of family life. This tour focuses on the imperial use of the house. You will learn what functions the rooms had during Advent, what delicacies were part of the Christmas dinner and what gifts the imperial couple and their seven children received. Wilhelm II was the first monarch to occupy the New Palace as a preferred residence for several months of the year.
