Little is known about the connection between soccer fields and forced labor in Berlin. Research findings from a project group of Hertha BSC fans offer new insights.

During World War II, soccer games regularly drew thousands of people to Berlin’s stadiums, providing a distraction from the daily realities of war. At the same time, the Nazis converted the capital’s stadiums and sports fields into camps to house forced laborers. What did soccer fans see as they flocked to Hertha BSC’s popular stadium at Gesundbrunnen on game days?
