Guided Tour of the Special Exhibition "Forced to Work - Willing to Survive | Forced Labor in the Past and Present"

As part of Open Monument Day 2026

The international traveling exhibition “Forced to Work – Willing to Survive” was created as a joint Erasmus+ project by partners from Italy, Austria, and Poland. It sheds light on the widespread phenomenon of Nazi forced labor through personal biographies: the stories of civilian workers, prisoners of war, concentration camp inmates, and persecuted Jews from across Europe are brought to life here.

The exhibition compares the different historical contexts in occupied Poland, “annexed” Austria, and Italy—which remained an ally until 1943. A concluding section draws a connection to the present: Despite international agreements, millions of people worldwide are affected by modern-day exploitation today.
