Max Liebermann was one of the most famous German Impressionists, and the villa on Wannsee was his summer home. Today, the house, which is used as an art museum, and its listed garden commemorate the history of his family. Some of them fled into exile after his death. His widow Martha was forced to sell the villa. Three years later, she took her own life to escape the threat of deportation. A guided tour of the house and garden provides an insight into the life of the Liebermanns.

about DENK MAL AM ORT:

in 2016, the founders of DENK MAL AM ORT invited people to the very first meeting. The project met with great interest. Some neighbors had already researched the history of their own homes and what happened to the former residents who were persecuted during the Nazi era.

Since then, DENK MAL AM ORT has encouraged current residents to take an interest in the history of their home and open their doors once a year to share their memories. At the authentic locations, in the former apartment, in the house, in the courtyard, in the stairwell, in the garden or at the places of study and work, the stories of persecution and flight of the former residents are brought back to life together with their descendants from all over the world, in conversations, readings, exhibitions and music.Translated with DeepL
