The eastern Anatolian region of Dersim was the scene of massacres committed by the Turkish military against the predominantly Alevi population in 1937-38. Expulsion and re-education measures contributed to the extensive destruction of Dersim's traditional way of life. The Dersim 1937/38 project by the Dersim Culture and History Center and Ruhr University Bochum has edited interviews with contemporary witnesses and is now presenting the videos, subtitled in Kırmancki, Turkish and German, to the public. In four panels, experts from the fields of violence research, linguistics, museology and art (film & graphic novels) will explore how the material can be used in the future. Join in the discussion!
