Curator-led tour with DGS: Josef Kaiser

The tour will be simultaneously interpreted into German Sign Language (DGS).

Josef Kaiser (1910–1991) was one of the most influential architects of the GDR. Between 1950 and 1984, he played a key role in the design of numerous, predominantly representative government buildings. His modern designs along Berlin’s Karl-Marx-Allee garnered international attention and were regarded as an expression of the GDR’s cultural identity. Many of his buildings, including the iconic Kino International, are now designated historic landmarks. For the first time, this exhibition explores his life and work through drawings, collages, photographs, films, and models, shedding light on political and aesthetic tensions. Contemporary perspectives offer new insights into his legacy as part of German-German architectural history.
