Cotton Queen

Kinemathek – Studiokino

In a Sudanese cotton-growing village, Nafisa grows up listening to her grandmother’s fairy-tale stories. When a businessman from abroad arrives with genetically modified seeds and grand development plans, she becomes a key figure in the power struggle over the village’s future and, in the process, discovers her own strength.

Following the screening, there will be a discussion with the Sudanese director Marwa Zein, who has gained international recognition for her documentaries and short films and works in Berlin as a director, producer and film lecturer.
