Collaborative Approaches to AI – Exploring the Scope for Archival Agency

AI technology is constantly accelerating and fiercely dynamic. From the point of view of film archives, it can seem simultaneously too early and too late to systematically engage with the new developments – both with their risks and opportunities. This can often result in a feeling of insularity or passivity. What can film archives do, not only to keep up, but also to claim an active role in how this technology is shaping the ways in which film heritage is preserved, made accessible and understood?

This session marks the launch of a peer learning initiative which is bringing archivists together to explore and respond to AI developments in the sector. Rather than a panel, this will be a working session – a first, hands-on exploration of the questions and challenges the sector is collectively facing, and a space to shape what comes next.
