Berlin Wall Tour

Historical tours

The Wall Tour is one of the most popular guided tours in Berlin and takes you along the former border strip in Berlin City. It starts at Bernauer Straße, an authentic site where today there is an open-air memorial.

Learn about the construction and fall of the Wall, and see remaining Wall remnants and places of escape attempts. The Wall tour ends at the former border crossing Checkpoint Charlie.

Spectacular escape attempts and traces of the Cold War

During the open-air documentary on Bernauer Strasse, the wide swath of the deadly border strip is kept visible over a length of more than 1 km. Learn how the Wall was built, how the border fortifications were expanded and how the Wall fell. In addition to the political background of the time, we will show you authentic sites of spectacular Wall escapes, successful tunnel escapes and failed escape attempts. During our guided tours, you will also see the legendary Palace of Tears at the former border crossing at Friedrichstraße station, which is now also home to a documentation center.

Our tours end at Checkpoint Charlie. There you will find the Wall Museum and an exhibition on the Cold War, which you can visit on your own afterwards. During our tour we partly use public transportation.

On this tour you will visit:

  • the Berlin Wall Memorial along Bernauer Straße
  • Places of tunnel escapes
  • the Chapel of Reconciliation
  • the Berlin Wall Memorial with Hinterland Wall and watchtower
  • the exhibition "Border and Ghost Stations in Divided Berlin" at Nordbahnhof station
  • Rides on former "ghost lines" with S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains
  • the Palace of Tears at Friedrichstraße Station
  • Checkpoint Charlie, a famous symbol of the Cold War
