Bauhaus Lab: Geometry? Himmeli!

Foto: Cornelia Durka – Im Bild ist ein Tablet mit der Abbildung eines historischen Schwarz-Weiß-Fotos zu sehen. Es handelt sich um das Foto mit der Arbeit „Pentahexaedron“ (1948) des Künstlers Richard Buckminster Fuller. Ansonsten um das Tablet herum sind rotes Garn und einige Strohstern-ähnliche Formen zu sehen, die dreimensional sind und noch unfertig erscheinen.

The principles of geometry give rise to a distinct aesthetic that we encounter in many cultures and which also inspired teachers and students at the Bauhaus. This aesthetic can be seen, for example, in architecture or in the design of patterns and surfaces. We also want to experiment with dimensions, rhythm and structure, taking the traditional ‘Himmeli’ straw ornaments as our model. ‘Himmeli’ are ornaments traditionally made from straws in various countries across Northern and Eastern Europe to mark the cycle of the year or Christmas celebrations.

The workshop will be held in German but our educators can also give explanations in English.

You are also welcome to drop by spontaneously and see if there are any workshop places available. However, please don't be disappointed if all places are taken.
