Everything was better in the past - or was it? Nostalgia is a strong feeling: it can connect, comfort and give hope, but it can also obscure our view of the future. In times of change, we experience it everywhere - in politics, pop culture and personal memories. But what happens when we use nostalgia not as a retreat, but as a resource for shaping the future?

You experiment with memories, images and feelings from the past - and ask how they influence our ideas of tomorrow.

In a playful and speculative way, you will explore how nostalgic images are created, what they do to our imagination and how they can be translated into new designs for the future.

Together, you will try out different approaches, develop initial prototypes and test how nostalgia can help to make desirable futures more tangible - without falling into simplistic "everything was better in the past" narratives. The workshop is a pilot format of Futures Probes and invites you to think, play and imagine along with us.
