Exhibition Opening: 1941. Letters from June. Unread Field Mail from Kamianets-Podilskyi

To mark the 85th anniversary of the German invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941, the museum is once again presenting the exhibition *1941: Letters from June*. Unread field post from Kamianets-Podilskyi, which was curated in 2016 in collaboration with the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II in Kyiv.

Selected letters offer insights into the emotional worlds of Red Army soldiers as well as the residents of the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi during the first days of the German invasion in southwestern Ukraine. The letters fell into the hands of the German occupation administration, which sent them as spoils of war to the Postal Museum in Vienna. Following their restitution, the collection is now housed at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II in Kyiv.

For the new presentation, further insights into the city’s history in the context of the German war of extermination were compiled in close collaboration with the State Historical Museum of Kamianets-Podilskyi.
