Art at the beginning of the 20th century, with its new conception of humanity, transformed perspectives and broke down boundaries. The visual arts, literature, music, and architecture converged in artistic processes. Berlin became an important hub for emerging art movements.
Expressionists such as Otto Möller and Gottfried Benn expressed their subjective experience of the world through their painting and poetry. Architecture, too, took an Expressionist turn. For Otto Bartning, for example, this led to a completely new design for a sacred building: his crystal-like Sternkirche. Finally, Dada shattered the last remaining conventions with collages, sound poems, and chance music. This gave rise to unexpected ideas about what art can and may do.
We encounter all of this on a tour of the permanent exhibition, where we listen, touch, and share our impressions with one another. We’re excited and look forward to seeing you!
