"Star Trek" Professor Hubert Zitt on Our Future with AI

Artificial intelligence is already changing the way we work, communicate, and make decisions. Many see it as one of the most important technologies of our time—but will it truly lead us to a better world?

AI promises to treat diseases more effectively, tackle climate change, and make our daily lives easier. At the same time, concerns are growing about disinformation, manipulation, and a loss of control. Which tasks do we want to leave to machines in the future, and where will humans remain irreplaceable? We ask: “Where do we stand on the topic of AI right now—and how do we want to shape its development in the future?”

-> Dr.-Ing. Hubert Zitt studied electrical engineering and works as an instructor in the computer science program at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences on the Zweibrücken campus. In addition to his “regular” teaching duties, Hubert Zitt has become known throughout Germany (and beyond) for his Star Trek lectures. Together with Gene Roddenberry Jr., the son of the creator of Star Trek, Zitt wrote the foreword to the book “Star Trek in Germany” in 2008. In the fall of 2008, he taught “Physics of Star Trek” as a regular course for an entire semester at a university in San Antonio, Texas. To date, Hubert Zitt has given more than 400 lectures on Star Trek, Star Wars, and other science fiction films and has appeared on television shows. In 2012, his agency, 5-Sterne-Redner, honored him with the “Most Extraordinary Speaker of the Year” award.
