On 4 July 2026, the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To mark the occasion, Rebecca Wolf, Director of the State Institute for Music Research, and Sydney Hutchinson, Research Fellow at the SIM, will take a special look at the collection of the Musical Instrument Museum.

At 1 pm, a workshop will begin on the topic of shape-note singing, a democratic tradition of a cappella singing originating in the USA, which uses a special notation to simplify sight-singing.
