As opportunities to meet Holocaust survivors become increasingly rare, there is a growing risk that the Holocaust will recede from living memory. Drawing on documented testimonies, the dancers, together with choreographers Stefan Hahn and Rafaela Molina, initiate a choreographic search for new forms of remembrance — opening spaces for emotion while adopting an activist perspective that broadens our view and strikes to the very core.

Production and Ensemble

The horrific crimes against humanity committed by the National Socialist regime have long since entered the history books. But have we truly come to terms with them — personally, as a society? As opportunities to meet Holocaust survivors disappear and visits to memorial sites become less common, there is a growing danger that the Holocaust will fade from living memory, dissolving into abstraction.

Together with choreographers Stefan Hahn and Rafaela Molina, the dancers of the Perform[d]ance Youth Company embark on a choreographic search for new forms of remembrance. Nichts wird vergessen (Nothing Will Be Forgotten) creates space for emotion — activist in spirit, broadening perspectives and striking to the very core. Dance has a unique capacity to engage with moments that leave us speechless or deeply moved, inviting audiences into a profound process of reflection. The remembering body enters spaces of raw violence, moments of defiance and resistance, and ultimately the simple yet powerful act of being human.

The themes explored in Nichts wird vergessen form an essential part of the history of the country in which we have grown up. Yet engaging with this history through the creation of the work proved to be an intense and emotionally demanding journey for all of us. Throughout the process, we became especially aware of the importance of solidarity and community — both in the past and today — and of the strength they can give people. Working with the testimonies of Holocaust survivors and creating solo responses to their words is something that will remain with us for a long time.

We must never forget what human beings are capable of. Whether driven by hatred, fear or ignorance, the crimes of the National Socialist regime must never fade from memory — and must never be allowed to happen again.
