Musician, author and director Christiane Rösinger released her first stage production, “Stadt unter Einfluß” (City Under Influence), with HAU in 2019 and has been closely associated with the theatre in a variety of capacities ever since. Most recently, her fourth HAU production, “Leben im Liegen” (Life Lying Down), premiered at HAU1. Following the rerun of this theatre work, she is now presenting her new book, “The Joy of Ageing” (Rowohlt), at a reading accompanied by music.Christiane Rösinger is a musician, Kreuzberg resident and grandmother. As far as she’s concerned, things could go on like this forever, if it weren’t for ageing and money worries. Ageing can’t be stopped, but to earn a little money, Christiane decides to write a guide to ageing. Without illusions, but with power. An energetic call to no longer put up with the way society treats women who are no longer young.But it’s not that easy to find a relaxed attitude towards ageing. This is evident from conversations with her friends, whose experiences and opinions vary: there’s the dog lady, the self-improver, the country girl. But where are the role models? And above all: what helps when you suddenly find yourself in the stroke unit at the hospital?This is not a self-help book, but a bitingly funny book full of memories, thoughts and stories, which ultimately offers some serious advice: complain less, live more. Because being old means being free.
