For the “Sleeping Show”, both the artist Seiichi Yamamoto and the audience assume a sleeping position. As lights dim to near-total darkness, falling asleep is welcome. Performing on electric guitar and effects, Yamamoto himself may also drift off. In collective darkness, something paradoxical emerges: the chance to be alone together. In the liminal spacebetween wakefulness and sleep, each listener surrenders to their own thoughts, sensing the quiet presence of others. Ambient sleep as collective solitude.
