There is a special kind of magic in every beginning: On the eve of the official release of her EP Warme Tage, artist Neneh Boye takes to the stage at Ballhaus Naunynstraße with her band to present her debut EP. It is her first-ever live performance with a full band. It is surely no coincidence that the release concert is taking place here. Neneh Boye has known Ballhaus Naunynstraße for years; most recently, she performed here with The String Archestra in their very first collaboration with composers and singers Gonza & Bona Ngoumou, playing to a sold-out audience. Now she makes her extended debut: Warme Tage.
Neneh Boye’s music moves between soul-pop and R&B, carried by heartfelt German-language lyrics and melodies that convey vulnerability, honesty and authenticity while also reflecting on social developments. Inspired by Afro-German poet and activist May Ayim, a sense of political consciousness and poetry resonates throughout her songs. Following Neneh Boye’s debut single Boye (2024) came Winterluft, featuring rapper and drummer cesco.blz; this year saw the release of the singles Pistazien & Grüner Tee and Augenwinkel.
Her EP Warme Tage tells stories of nostalgia and love, identity and profound encounters. Neneh Boye creates a very particular atmosphere in which vulnerability, emotional depth and a shimmering lightness can coexist. The former ballroom on Naunynstraße seems like the perfect stage for this.
On this premiere evening, Neneh Boye will be joined by five musicians: cesco.blz on drums and percussion, Philipp Ahovi on piano, and the string trio Daniele Daude, Yassin Sowe and Eurico Ferreira Mathias from the Berlin string ensemble The String Archestra.
