NATHALIA MILSTEIN

Piano Works by Martinů, Boulanger, Szymanowski, and Rachmaninoff

With performances in Europe, Asia, and the United States, Nathalia Milstein has made a name for herself on the international stage in recent years. The young French pianist, who studied at the Barenboim-Said Akademie and is heard earlier this season in a piano trio program, presents a solo recital of music written around the time of World War I. While the works of Bohuslav Martinů, Lili Boulanger, and Karol Szymanowski reflect a yearning for lost beauty, Rachmaninoff’s “picture etudes,” for all their virtuosity, also express the composer’s despair in times of global turmoil.
