Peter Schilling's music has influenced entire generations and continues to inspire many people around the world to this day. In January 2026, the artist will be celebrating his 70th birthday, and we’ll be marking the occasion with the new immersive fulldome programme: »Major Tom: völlig losgelöst.« A production by Stiftung Planetarium Berlin together with Peter Schilling, it explores new ways of combining music and astronomy with elaborate fulldome visualisations and a 3D sound design specially adapted to the dome. You can experience »Major Tom: völlig losgelöst« (»Major Tom: Coming Home«) for six months exclusively at the Zeiss-Groβplanetarium – on selected dates in combination with live performances by the artist himself. From April 2026, the programme will then be shown in planetariums worldwide. Peter Schilling has been one of the most important voices in German pop music since the 1980s. The fulldome experience »Major Tom: völlig losgelöst« is a multimedia journey through his broad musical spectrum. Iconic global hits such as »Major Tom (coming home)« and »The Different Story,« »Terra Titanic«, and »Die Wüste lebt« are complemented by new, previously unreleased compositions. The result is a futuristic experience that makes music accessible in an innovative way. Under the artistic direction of Rocco Helmchen and with 3D sound design by Tom Ammermann, in collaboration with internationally renowned artists such as laser artist Paul Alty, fulldome designer Sébastien Labrunie, fractal filmmaker Julius Horsthuis, motion designer Sergey Prokofyev and audiovisual artist Meisam Nemati, a sound and visual experience is created that touches at all levels. A multi-layered, immersive dimension unfolds within the dome through the interplay of the various media, where artistic soundscapes and scientifically inspired aesthetics merge into an impressive overall experience.Discover this unique musical experience with a live concert by Peter Schilling and his band: planetarium.berlin/major-tom-liveProduktion: Stiftung Planetarium Berlin Bild © Rocco Helmchen, Ta-Trung Berlin
