In 2024, Junyan Chen won Second Prize at the renowned Leeds Piano Competition with her brilliant performance of Rachmaninoff’s Fourth Piano Concerto. The composer’s music also features prominently in her Pierre Boulez Saal debut program. Alongside his Études-tableaux and Second Sonata, the young pianist presents equally challenging etudes by Unsuk Chin and Karen Tanaka. Chick Corea’s Children’s Songs, to which Chen adds her own improvisations, provide a poetic counterpoint.
