JULIA KLEITER & JULIUS DRAKE

Lied und Lyrik: Emily Dickinson

Only ten of Emily Dickinson’s poems were published in her lifetime—even her family was unaware until after her death that hundreds more manuscripts were waiting to be discovered in her desk. Today, Dickinson is revered as one of the most important voices of American poetry whose works have inspired many other creators, including Black and feminist artists in particular, for 150 years. Accompanied by readings of the original English texts, Julia Kleiter and Julius Drake explore Dickinson’s musical heritage in settings by Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, George Walker, Libby Larsen, and others.
