Erik Satie: SocrateConcert with Wioletta Hebrowska
Wednesday 24 June 2026,
doors 6:00 p.m.,
concert begins 6:20 p.m.
The evening continues the programme series accompanying the current exhibition of Constantin Brancusi and turns to the close friendship Brancusi shared with several composers of his time. This time, the focus is on an even wider range of Brancusi’s friendships. At the heart of the programme is ‘Socrate’, a rarely performed work by Erik Satie. The libretto of the piece is based on Platonic dialogues, which were of great significance to both artists. A few years after the piece’s world premiere, Brancusi even created a sculpture entitled ‘Socrate’ (1922), now at MoMA in New York Citx.
