Religion’s influence has declined dramatically in recent years. At the same time, democratic societies face daunting challenges: a second Trump presidency backed by his evangelical base, a resurgence of fundamentalist movements, and the increasingly brazen normalisation of right-wing populist thinking — all while the Christian churches continue to erode. So what exactly do society and democracy lose when religion falls silent? And where might religion’s potential lie in shaping our democracy? Join politician Gregor Gysi and sociologist Hartmut Rosa as they debate these questions with Christiane Florin.
