George Maciunas’s musical scoring systems made between 1960 and 1962 are the definitive do-it-yourself compositions. Take a grid form, fill in the sounds to be made and their durational values and, voila … avant-garde music. But the implied simplicity of these scores is deceptive. The pieces are played by Anton Lukoszevieze, a cellist, composer and visual artist. He is also the founder and director of the experimental music group Apartment House.
